The Process
The journey from a story idea to a finished film has many components. Briefly, they involve:
- Script development: write and revise the story, copyright the final version, estimate an initial budget.
- Pre-Production: research for set location and dressing, pitch production and editing, fundraising, website development, creating a legal entity, obtaining a tax ID, purchasing insurance, and creating legal forms such as talent release and non-disclosure release forms.
- Production: auditioning and selecting talent, hiring the technical crew, scheduling, set development, dressing the set, storyboarding, deveoping a shot list, rehearsing scenes, setting up lighting, creating special effects, and capturing sound. Feeding the cast and crew.
- Post-Production: creating computer graphics and visual effects, editing the video, creating a music score, adding a sound track, mixing sound, dialogue, and video, and finally, copyrighting the film.
- Release - we are HERE in the process: showing the film to contributors, entering film festivals for screening and judging, soliciting distribution, releasing to churches and schools as appropriate, and possible theatrical and/or streaming release.
